Baralt Theater: reference in our film history

Baralt Theater opened on July 24, 1883 and designed for the dissemination of regional performing arts with a capacity of 400 people in an area of \u200b\u200b44 meters long, 21 meters wide and 10 high. The original facade consisted of a portico formed by four Tuscan columns and a terrace protected by iron railings. Under this infrastructure, the July 11, 1896 the entrepreneur Luis Manuel Mendez brought to the city of Maracibo the vitascopio created by Thomas Alva Edison. The operator of that machine was the young Zulia Manuel Trujillo Durán. Among the first films screened at that time are The Monroe Doctrine and Anabella Serpentine Dance, translated by the press of the time as Allegory of the Monroe Doctrine and serpentine, respectively.
The January 28, 1897 there are two projections for some are the first Venezuelan films and other historical research error. In any case, in 1989 is enacted, more by convention, the National Cinema Day. Clarify whether it is 1896 or 1897 is a task for historians.
In 1932 the architect LJ Hoet undertook the restoration process by which it was proposed to control the corrosiveness of water pottery buried underground, as did the ancient Aztec people. The neoclassical architectural style, unlike the old, rather Arabic, expanded its capacity to almost 1000 seats, including three levels of balconies, an audience inclined, a basement and an adjacent building for dressing rooms and bathrooms, and a high scenario, with little width of mouth and medium depth.
In November 1981 he was declared a National Monument becoming Venezuela's Cultural Heritage of Humanity. For 1986, under the auspices of the then Ministry of Urban Development (MINDUR), new start restoration work, under the responsibility of a team led by architect Paolo D'Onghia. In 1995 MINDUR signed an agreement with Rafael Urdaneta Center (URC), under which it transfers to the coordination of work and resource management. On July 18, 1998 reopening occurs and is under the tutelage of Baralt Theater Foundation.
Baralt Theater is currently in operation with constant cultural programming. Pre-release a movie or pay homage to a filmmaker in the Baralt is a ritual for good luck as always done full house with the best heat Maracaibo.
